Special Consultative Status to UN EcoSoc

Economic and Social Council of the United Nations

In 2022 FIBREE obtained a special consultative status at the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN EcoSoc). This places FIBREE among a selected group of approximately 4.000 NGOs worldwide that have this status.

EcoSoc remains the only main UN body with a formal framework for NGO participation. While EcoSoc has the opportunity to avail itself of valuable and expert advice from NGOs, the NGOs in turn also have the opportunity of expressing their views and influencing the work of the Council. NGOs have specialized competence, hands-on experience and flexibility that is of great value to the UN. On the other hand, EcoSoc offers NGOs the opportunity to be heard by a truly global audience and to contribute to its agenda.

Contributing to multiple UN EcoSoc committees

Initially, we will focus on contributing to the agenda of the next UN ECOSOC committees:

  • Commission on Science and Technology for Development
  • Commission on the Status of Women
  • Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

FIBREE UN-objectives for 2024

By getting this distinguished consultative status, FIBREE aims to focus on completing a range of achievements in 2024:

  • Create a uniform global SDG assesment tool for the built environment
  • Joining Global ABC as a member
  • Combat gender inequality worldwide in the realm of ‘blockchain and real estate’

In order to best fulfil its role, FIBREE has established a special task force of which representatives will be allowed to represent FIBREE at the UN and thus will have access to UN meetings. If you are interested to contribute to our UN EcoSoc roadmap, or address your input to our UN task force, please feel free to reach out to us by email: board@fibree.org

FIBREE’s UN SDG ambition

As a proud member of the UN EcoSoc eco-system, FIBREE has also defined how it would like to contribute to the comprehensive UN SDG-framework for a prosperous future for people and planet. We distinguish our contribution in 2 categories:

1) FIBREE will directly contribute to the following SDGs:

SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 5 – Gender Equality
SDG 9 – Industry Innovation and Infrastructure
SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the goals

2) FIBREE will indirectly contribute to the SDGs 6, 7, 8, 13, 15 and 16 by endorsing its network to develop solutions in this sphere.

We help our members to assess their activities and show, like ourselves, to which SDGs we contribute. If you are interested to assess your activities, please send us an email: board@fibree.org
